There is no universal replacement interval. A blade cutting clean, softwood logs may last considerably longer than one processing abrasive hardwood, frozen logs, or logs containing dirt and bark.

For commercial sawmills, it is usually more economical to rotate several blades and sharpen them regularly rather than simply replacing a blade every time it becomes dull. A properly maintained blade can often be sharpened and reused multiple times.

How to Extend Sawmill Blade Life

Keep logs free of dirt, stones, and metal.

Use the correct blade tooth pitch for the wood being processed.

Maintain proper blade tension.

Check blade alignment regularly.

Avoid excessive feed speed.

Sharpen blades before they become severely dull.

Inspect teeth and blade body for cracks or damage.
