What Limits Log Size for sawmill

The main limits are:

Throat width / max diameter

Bed length

Engine horsepower

Blade width and strength

Log weight (sometimes weight is the real limit before diameter)

Quick rule of thumb

For most common portable band sawmills:

Expect roughly 24–36 inch diameter logs and 12–16 foot lengths

That covers the majority of homestead and custom lumber jobs.
