The right sawmill machine is the one that matches your log diameter, log length, wood species, target board size, production volume, power supply, handling method, and budget. For occasional on-site milling, a portable horizontal band sawmill may be enough. For heavy hardwood logs or regular commercial production, choose a rigid machine with hydraulic log handling, controlled feed, reliable blade tension, and a suitable power reserve. A complete sawmill line may be more appropriate when logs must be sorted, edged, resawn, conveyed, and prepared for downstream production.
Match the Machine to Log Diameter
Log diameter is one of the first specifications to check. Do not select a model based only on average diameter. Include the largest logs, butt swell, taper, sweep, and the space required for clamps and turning equipment.
A machine that is rated for a particular maximum diameter may still require a different configuration when logs are heavy, irregular, contaminated, or difficult to turn. Ask the supplier to confirm:
1.Maximum recommended log diameter, not only the theoretical opening.
2.Maximum workable log length.
3.Available log-bed and track extensions.
4.Required loader, turner, or crane capacity.
5.Clamping method for irregular logs.
6.Recommended blade and motor configuration.
7.Whether the quoted capacity applies to the standard or customized model.
YSDMILL’s published horizontal sawmill page lists model options with maximum sawing diameters of 500mm-1,500 mm, with a standard sawing length of 5,000 mm and custom-made length options.Custom made service are provided.
